FILM FEST
INTERVIEW WITH Fábio Powers
How long have you been making movies? What inspired you to start?
I've been making movies since I was a kid. My passion started when my father gave me a camera, sparking a lifelong interest in filmmaking.
What motivated you to undertake this project?
I've always wanted to make a B-movie ever since I was 13. Additionally, a close friend of mine had a dream to star in a movie. This project allowed us to fulfill both of our dreams.
(If you can share) What was your budget for this project?
The project was self-funded.
How long did it take from the initial idea to the release?
We began shooting in 2019 and released the film in 2024, so it took about five years.
Are you satisfied with the final result?
For the most part, yes. I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
What stage is the project currently in? Are you submitting it to festivals, in the middle of the circuit, or finishing up?
We’ve just started the festival circuit. The world premiere was at the Fantasia International Film Festival!
How has your experience with the festivals been so far? Any areas for improvement?
We've only attended one festival so far, and it was a fantastic experience!
Filmmakers often draw from various references. Were you inspired by any directors or films for this project?
Absolutely! I drew inspiration from several sources, including Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, Peter Jackson’s early films, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain, and Tokusatsu series like Super Sentai (Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider.
What is your favorite movie?
Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky.
Favorite TV series?
Doctor Who.
Do you see yourself making movies in five years? Where do you envision your career?
I’d love to continue making movies. If we secure funding, I’d like to work on another feature film. If not, I’ll focus on creating short films for a while.
Do you have any other projects in mind?
I'm currently working on a graphic novel about my grandfather. He was a talented blind accordionist with an incredible life story that deserves to be told.
What are your hopes for the future in terms of filmmaking?
I hope this film gets a wider release and brings joy and laughter to audiences.
What has been your best experience in a movie theater?
Watching “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and experiencing the audience's collective excitement during certain key moments was unforgettable.
