FILM FEST
INTERVIEW WITH Paolo Franzelletti
INTERVIEW WITH
Paolo Franzelletti
How long have you been doing movies? How did you decide to start making movies?
I've been doing movies since 2019, when Covid-19 came out, and I found enough time to give life to my dream: make an animated short film. The dream of a lifetime. I always knew that, sooner or later, this dream would come true.

Why did you do this project?
Because animating was, and still is, a need. Art is a need. I need tho share my vision with other people. I need to be heard.

(If you can say). How much budget did you have to do this project?
Around 2000-2500 euros. But I'm shure it's even more.

Was it self-funded or did you get budget/producers/investors?
It was all self funded. I've always been told that if you want something, the way you want it, you must count on your strenght.

How long did it take from the initial idea to being able to release?
Four years of my life.
Are you happy with the result?
Yes, I am. Happy and extremely proud.

What phase is this project in right now? Are you in the initial phase of sending it to festivals, middle phase or finishing the circuit?
I'm in the fase of sending it to festivals.

How has your experience been with the festivals so far? Where do you think they should improve?
It was good, indeed. Some of them must improve in the communication. I know, it's not that easy. But they can try.

Normally, filmmakers use many references, favorite directors, favorite movies, etc. Were you inspired by any director or film? If so, tell us your references.
Honestly, I had no particular director in mind. I watch a lot of movies, even animated ones; I was inspired by painters: italian "macchiaioli", for exemple.

Your favorite movie?
So many. I can't choose.

Favorite series?
Only murders in the building, Outlander.

Do you see yourself making movies in 5 years? Where do you see yourself?
Absolutely. Maybe a box office animated movie. I see myself making movie with my daughter.

Do you have any other project in mind?
Yes I have. I'm working on a new project right now.
What do you ask for the future? (cinematographically speaking)
That AI won't be part of the creative process.

Your best experience in a movie theater?
Watching Disney's Pocahontas when I was 5. It was the first time in a theater.
